BWTS Special Event: Mardi Gras!

Get ready for the second annual Mardi Gras event, an experience unique to Brush with the Spirit where we explore the mystery and tradition of Mardi Gras in New Orleans. This event is led by Danah Cox, who was born and raised in NOLA and worked there in French restaurants for over two decades.

This year, we’ll be looking at the significance of costuming for Mardi Gras, from the reasons for dressing up to what goes into coming up with a costume. We’ll also be delving a bit into the history of New Orleans and the history of Carnival, all followed by a Q&A that will cover any questions raised, as well as provide some practical advice if you ever had planned to go to New Orleans.

If that weren’t enough, we’ll also be serving authentic Creole/Cajun food prepared by Danah himself.

For children and the young at heart, we’ll have a mask-making table where you can create your very own Mardi Gras mask.

So again the question is, have you ever...

  • Wondered about the draw of Carnival and Mardi Gras?

  • Wanted to taste authentic Creole and Cajun food?

  • Wondered about the hidden customs and secret traditions of Mardi Gras?

  • Wanted to go to NOLA, or been there and wanted to learn more about the history of the city?

  • Wondered about why everyone goes in costume?

  • Wanted to know what goes into coming up with a Mardi Gras costume?

Then come see behind the mask and learn about the subtle variations of Carnival from our very own New Orleans native at this interactive, family friendly event.

Here at Brush with the Spirit, we strive to create a safe, welcoming environment where all may participate as much or as little as they like. You can be assured that wherever you’re at in your faith journey, you are welcome here.
